Why I don’t perform hip replacement through an Anterior approach.

There are multiple approaches used in hip replacements and none is inherently better than the other. The most important thing is for the surgeon to get the implant safely into the correct position. While I don’t perform Anterior hip replacements I have seen many significant complications from them.

Of most concern is a rate of fracture of the femur which I think is unnaceptable. This is a disaster for patients and will often require a revision procedure (redo).
